After a rocky season, Viking Football hopes to end on a highlight as it celebrates its senior night on Marquee Sports Network, a regional sports broadcaster that usually carries the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Sky. This fall, though, as part of its Community Showcase, Marquee has broadcast games for CSL rivals like Glenbrook North and Deerfield as well as events put on by area powerhouses like Batavia and Brother Rice. Now, the Showcase will come to Niles North.
Niles North Viking Media, a student-run club that has operated since 2011, will be producing this broadcast. Senior participant Jacob Orenstein, remarking on his excitement, said, “This stream is a huge opportunity for me and everyone else at Viking Media. As a guy trying to go into sports broadcasting, it’s amazing that I get to make my TV debut at such a young age. I’m excited to be in the booth and do what I love for a large audience.”
The club’s approximately 40 other members have shared these sentiments like Jason Schmitz, another senior in the club who wrote that “[he’s] very excited for today’s game!” He continued, saying, “It’s my last football game that I get to cover here at Viking Media… I’m ready for the Vikings to win!”
Melany Artajo, another senior in the club, is looking forward to getting to work with other broadcasters. “For the first time in my Viking Media years, we get to collaborate with another broadcast team. I’ve never done a stream this big and I think its a huge milestone for Viking Media as a whole.”
Those who cannot make it to the game in-person will be able to catch the Marquee broadcast online. Anyone watching on traditional television can also find their provider on Marquee Sports Network’s website. Coverage will start Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m.
