I went into the theater to watch Beetlejuice 2 with an open mind, hoping for an entertaining sequel. I felt skeptical, considering the rarity of finding a sequel that hasn’t fallen flat and managed to capture the essence of its original. Unfortunately, my gut feeling of being skeptical was right. The movie was unengaging and boring. It was the biggest waste of time and fourteen dollars.
Directed by the notorious Tim Burton, the Deetz family returns home to Winter River after an unexpected family tragedy. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life changes when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid Deetz, discovers a mysterious portal to the afterlife.
I will say, the visual effects of the movie were quite interesting. They managed to blend the practical effects that gve the original movie its unique charm with modern CGI. The use of imaginative set designs made the bizarre and spooky world of Beetlejuice. It really created what is the films overall aesthetic.
The overall plot felt all over the place. It was hard to keep track of what was going on and what to focus on in the movie.
If you were to ask me, I would say to not waste your time with this one. It is nothing like the original Beetlejuice.
