March Madness is rapidly approaching, and here’s what you need to know about it.
March Madness, one of the most watched tournaments in American sports, is the Division 1 national tournament for basketball.
Although the tournament is not professional, it still garners a lot of views every year, due in part to the “bracket creating” tradition, in which anyone can submit a bracket of how the matchups within the tournament will pan out.
The current ESPN men’s Basketball rankings, as of Week 18 of the season, place University of Houston in the first place spot with a 26-3 record, followed closely by the University of Connecticut and Purdue University, who both sport the same record as Houston.
In the last season, the University of Connecticut ended up taking the title with a comfortable 76-59 win over San Diego State University.
Another reason March Madness continues to gain popularity is because of the underdog stories that occur year after year. Most recently, in 2022, St. Peters was the “Cinderella story of the decade”, when they became the first 15th seed to make it as far as the Elite Eight in the tournament’s history.
Basketball fans await this year’s March Madness with eagerness and excitement.
“I always love watching March Madness”, college basketball player Liam Graham said. “Every year it’s completely different, which keeps me on my toes. I’ve yet to have a perfect bracket, but maybe this year is the year.”
Although it’s impossible to know exactly what’ll happen in the tournament, many people will be creating their own brackets in search of a perfect one. You can enter bracket contests all over the internet, or even make bracket leagues with your friends. Whether watching just for basketball or you’re hoping their predictions are right, millions will be tuning in for the tournament once again this year.
