Adults often use the phrase “Gen Z will solve the climate crisis” to justify the fact that they’ve given up and put all the pressure on our shoulders. They sit back and relax because to them it’s up to our generation to fix the planet. To them, our generation will take control, while they can sit back and relax after they’ve created the problem in the first place.
Climate change is one of the biggest problems that is affecting our planet. 80% of the world’s land mass has been impacted by climate change. 2023 marks the first time on record that every day within a year has exceeded 1 degree Celsius.
A lot of politicians feel that their job is done and their being at a certain age makes them feel like they have the entitlement to stop trying to save the planet and give up on solutions.
Eddie Cho has seen how adults have pressured our generation to try and save the world.
“I feel like it’s unfair for everyone to try and tell us that it’s our responsibility to save the world when we aren’t the ones who created the problem,” senior Eddie Cho said. “We were just born into it and now were the ones that have to deal with it since all the pressure is being put on us.”
The pressure of trying to save the planet is on us. Even though older generations should keep trying to help and save the planet, it’s up to us to fix it. Social media is a big part of our lives now and posting how to better the planet or earth-friendly material would help people be alert.
Saving the planet will not only benefit the new generations but it will also help the old generations. If we can come up with solutions to help the planet it will show older generations that they shouldn’t give up when things get hard or give up because someone else is in the picture now. Working together is the only answer to saving and helping the planet that is our home.
