What is your name and year? I’m Saad Khan and I’m a junior.
What is your favorite movie? My favorite movie is The Truman Show. I thought it was a cool movie and Jim Carrey is just a cool person in general.
Describe your music taste? My music taste derives from Will Sterbenc’s taste—I like a little bit of everything, especially rap, hip-hop, and indie. I’ve been listening to a lot of Laufey lately.
What made you join debate and what made you stay? I joined the Debate team because all of my other friends joined and I thought it was really interesting. I honestly hated debate when I tried at first because it was so confusing and so time-consuming. I think I still hate debate but it’s pretty fun to win sometimes. It’s also pretty fun traveling with my great debate team because they’re all such dawgs!
What are your favorite arguments to run? My favorite arguments to run are ones that kind of break the rules of debate, those end up being debates about philosophy. It gets pretty meta because people end up arguing that my partner and I are unfair. It’s also pretty cool arguing about nuanced arguments such as extinction being good, economic collapse being good, and drone strikes being bad.
What other clubs are you involved in? I am kind of part of the academic bowl team, I’m more of a cheerleader for the team. I’m also part of an up and coming science club founded by Dev Shah.
Who is someone you admire and why? I admire Ari Elmayan. That man is so cool. He is such a nice buddy, he does 100 push-ups every day, he runs so well. He’s so funny and a good-looking guy. I really admire his work ethic and dedication to running. MAN, if I didn’t have a girlfriend [Kailey Cabrera] I’d choose him any day. I admire Ari Elmayan.
Who is a fictional character you relate to and why? I really relate to Spongebob Squarepants. More specifically, that one episode where he needs to write an essay but spends all his time writing the word “The” and ends up just not writing the essay. The episode is called “Procrastination.” I think this really reflects my academic experiences in my life so far.
