The Niles North Girls’ Basketball season has just recently started on Nov. 1, after a lot of hard work in the off-season. Their current overall record is 3-6. In Conference, they are 0-2, making them 6th place.
After a few close games to start their season, on Nov. 22, the girls took their first win against Aurora East High School with a score of 34-16.
On Dec. 1, the girls had their home-opener game against Maine West High School with a score of 26-51. Despite this tough loss, the girls managed to stay motivated and look forward to upcoming important games.
Team success is of the utmost importance. It’s valuable to look back on the growth you have made to see development and improvement.
“I think that we improved over the last few weeks and the team chemistry has gotten stronger which allows us to transfer it to the court,” sophomore Lety Martin said.
On Dec. 5, the girls had an exhilarating victory over Deerfield High School. The varsity team has not beaten Deerfield in a very long time, if not ever! This was a huge achievement for the team considering they beat national champions. The final score ended up being 49-36. As of now, they are on a two-game winning streak, with hopes of keeping it going.
Looking forward, the girls are confirmed to play rivals, Niles West, on Dec. 8 at Niles West. This should be a thrilling game. The JV kickoff is at 5:30 p.m. followed by Varsity at 7 p.m.
It’s always important to stay connected with your teammates to have team success.
“We like to be open with each other and communicate that there is stuff going on outside of basketball,” sophomore Lety Martin said. “We are just very understanding of each other and it helps us support each other during the game more.”
