Brent Faiyaz released a new album titled Larger Than Life on Oct. 27, 2023. The album includes 14 songs only totaling 36 minutes and 20 seconds of listening time. Overall the album had a very similar style compared to his old ones, but Larger Than Life seemed to be a little boring.
Although Brent Faiyaz does have some very good songs, he tends to come off as an artist who is very inconsistent with releasing hits. In each new album he releases he’ll have very popular songs such as All Mine, Clouded, or Addictions, while his other songs seem to just blend together. Even though this is common with a lot of artists, this new album seems to blend together even more than usual.
The album isn’t necessarily bad, it just sometimes feels like you’re listening to the same songs over and over again. When you listen to really good albums, the first time you listen to the songs you immediately get interested and want to listen again.
However, in Larger Than Life, it takes many different times of re-listening to the songs to be able to get some listeners interested. Most of the songs feel like repeats of his others that haven’t been as popular.
“I don’t really like this new Brent Faiyaz album. After Wasteland and his initial rise to fame, Brent Faiyaz hasn’t tried anything new. He’s stuck in an infinite loop of trying to recreate his sound in Wasteland, that he doesn’t create anything worth listening to. We need the old Brent back” sophomore Andre Hrisca said.
However, like usual there are some songs in the album that have been gaining attention online. WY@, and Best Time are probably two of the most liked songs on the album. Even though the album is a little boring at first, if you like most of Brent’s other songs, then you might like this one too. It may just take a few times listening through before you can make your opinion on it.
