How has having an Assyrian class changed Niles North? I think it brings the, well first of all, it makes our culture and languages more visible throughout the school’s district and community. I think the words got out a lot, so it’s also encouraging people outside of the community to maybe add it to their districts. It also impacted the students. They have a place other than our Assyrian club to really learn the language and culture.
What got you into being a teacher? Before teaching Assyrian, I was a science teacher, and I had studied science and my undergrad. So I always had an interest in working with students and teaching. So I found a program that let me get my teaching licenses. And when I student taught, I really enjoyed it, So I kept pursuing it and went into teaching.
What’s your favorite thing to do outside of teaching? Other then my hobbies, I just spend time with my family when i’m not at working teaching
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and why? I feel stuck in Chicago mostly because of family but other than that I would pick California because of the weather.
What’s your favorite TV show? Fargo is a really good one, and also The Office, an all time favorite.
If you could teach another subject, what subject would it be? If I was able to teach both, I would do science since I was a science teacher like I said. I would specifically teach either environmental science which is my favorite. And also Biology.
What would you like to see more of at Niles North? It’s a great school. Although half of the time I’m not around in the afternoon, I would like to see more students participating in the student activities.
