Homecoming is coming on Oct. 7 and with it comes a varsity football game of Niles North against Maine East on Friday, Oct. 6. The game is said to be a big one, as it helps determine Niles North’s place in upcoming competitions and final matches such as IHSA State Regionals.
Many students, staff, and parents are excited to see how the game will turn out this Saturday.
“I know that my friends will be there…but I know we’re going to win,” junior Saad Khan said. “I’m expecting to have some laughs with new friends, meet some new friends, and stay with those friends. I think the score is going to be 16-0, Niles North wins.”
Homecoming tickets have already been up for sale at the school this week for $15 per person. For those without tickets at the door on Saturday, people will have to pay $25 for their ticket. As for the football game, both students and players alike have great expectations.
“I think the outcome is going to be… I’ll win,” senior wide receiver Paul Youssef said. “This game is a big turning point because winning this game will lead momentum into the next two games, and if we win those, we’ll be going to the playoffs. I’d like to shout out quarterback Corban/CJ Hood, he’s going to be strong.”
Not only are there great expectations from students and players, but even coaches are expecting good things from Saturday’s game.
“We are expecting this game to be a competitive one but we are also expecting this to be a game that we should win,” football coach Andre Ashley said. “This game has significance for everyone just because it’s Homecoming, but for the rest of the team, it holds significance because it’s a chance to get back into conference so there’s a lot more riding in this game than just ‘Homecoming.’ It’s a really pivotal point in conference playing this season. The star players really chose themselves and are ready for this moment, CJ, a newcomer Homzat, Davone.”
Even before the game has begun, Niles North’s Friday Homecoming football game has proven to be a big one with a lot riding on it and a lot of great expectations. Players, coaches, and game watchers are all hoping for the best as the weekend game draws nearer and nearer. It’s safe to say that this upcoming game will be a great way to end this year’s Homecoming celebration.
