Alex Seitz, Senior

What is your name and grade? My name is Alexander Seitz, and I am a Senior.

What are your hobbies? I am on the cross country and track and field team. As well as in the robotics club. As well as nature photography from time to time. Mostly just hanging out with family and friends in my free time.

How would a friend describe you? A great encouraging and motivating friend who is leading the Track team and motivating everyone. I really appreciate his motivational efforts during races.

What goals are you trying to achieve this year? For my track season, I am hoping to get close to the 5 minute mile barrier. And for robotics, I am just hoping that we enjoy the world championships after a tough loss at state.

What/who got you involved in joining Track? After doing cross country my freshman year, basically everybody told me to join track. I was hesitant at first because I had a rough first season with cross country, and I was concerned about continuing.

What inspired you to do robotics? I had some friends in cross country who were in robotics. And they recommended that I try it out.

What is your favorite song, movie/tv show or game?  I think that my favorite tv show probably would be Breaking Bad.

What is your greatest athletic or academic achievement you have gotten so far? I think that my greatest athletic achievement was my junior year in a cross country race, when I ended up breaking the 19:30 time for three miles, with two stress fractures in my leg (found out the week after) and one shoe. At the time it was a great personal record, as well as being able to run in a pretty difficult situation that not many people have done.

What is your greatest memory from being at Niles North? I think that one of my favorite memories would be my last race in cross country. After a long season of injuries, I had never been able to achieve the goals I had set for myself at the start of the season. And as I continued to try and get there at the end of the season, I kept on putting too much pressure on myself to get there. But as soon as I let that go at my last conference race, I had my best race of all my seasons doing cross country. I enjoyed every minute, from the start to the finish, and even though I never quite got the time I wanted all season, just being able to push myself and to get a great PR in my last race, was definitely one of my favorite memories.

Will you continue running after High School? I very much plan on continuing to run in college. I may even end up running D3 cross country for Rose Hulman.
