What’s your name and grade? I’m Emily Butera and I’m a senior.

What’s your favorite part about orchestra class? I like that it’s a break in the middle of the day- I have some other hard classes and orchestra is like a breather.

How have you overcome struggles on the violin? I just have to believe that I can do it and practice every day. For example, we had a difficult piece, but I practiced specific parts every day to get better.

What’s your favorite part about being a point tutor?  I love helping people– I used to want to be a teacher and it’s my way of expressing my love for education.

What is your favorite memory at North? It’s hard to pick a favorite memory, but a good memory would probably be the homecoming game. It was nice to see so much senior spirit, especially after Covid and being isolated for so long.

What would you tell an underclassman? I’d say focus on your grades but not too much; you’ll burn out, or miss out on what’s important. Don’t focus too hard and live in the moment.

What would you tell your former self?  I think I’d give myself the same advice as I’d give an underclassman. Live in the moment more- stop obsessing over your future and stressing yourself out about things you can’t control.

How do you think you’ve grown since freshman year?  I’ve definitely gotten more mature and I feel like I have different values than I did when I was a freshman.

What’s something about you that most people don’t know? I’m an introverted person and I like staying in more than I like going out.

How do you manage your time? I think I’m pretty good- usually, I don’t need to organize but when life gets busy, I use a planner. I can usually think of it ahead of time and come early for things to get it out of the way.
