On April 18, Fox News made a $787.5 million settlement with Dominion Voting Systems over Fox News baselessly accusing Dominion of rigging voting machines against former president Donald Trump. Fox News reached the settlement last second, narrowly avoiding a six-week trial that would have followed, had the parties not come to an agreement. The witnesses included Fox Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch, his son and CEO Lachlan Murdoch, and top Fox hosts such as Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson.

Dominion Voting Systems sued Fox News over the accusation for originally 1.6 billion dollars although it was settled to 787.5 million, about half of what Dominion originally asked. According to NPR Dominion CEO John Poulos said that the accusations caused damage to the company and that in this situation they (Dominion) have sought accountability.

Fox News severely damaged Dominion’s reputation with the statements claiming that voting machines in the 2020 election were rigged however now the tables have turned and now that Dominion has won the case they have also begun to regain their good reputation. Fox News however is seeing its reputation decline. Fox News has also claimed to have the highest of journalistic standards. Now with them having openly lied to the public about something as big as rigged election results.

Dominion’s legal team pursued a strategy that intended to inflict as much discomfort for Fox and its proprietors as possible in order to secure as big a payout and as public an apology from Fox News as possible.

Fox News has lost some of its credibility and a lot of its money while Dominion has had its place restored. Fox News most likely isn’t going anywhere but it certainly isn’t as trustworthy as it was.
