What’s your name and grade? My name is Zoe Douglas. I’m a senior.

What has been your favorite part about being on the swim team? I love the relationships I was able to build with the people I swam with– I mean, I grew up with them, so it was nice to swim with them. It’s also nice to have someone you trust as a coach because I’ve known him since I was a kid.

What’s your biggest takeaway from high school? My biggest takeaway from high school would be that you really have to balance your workload and your social life. It takes time to learn how to manage those two things, but it gets easier with time.

What’s your favorite memory here at North? One of my favorite memories at North was the night of the Dance Marathon. It was so fun because we were a really close-knit group that year, and we worked so hard to rebuild DM from Covid, so it was nice to celebrate.

Would you recommend that other people join DM? 100%. It’s good to get leadership experience, and it’s also a great way to meet new people. Most of my friends are people that I met in DM. It’s also great for college apps because it shows you have experience working with others.

What do you love about DREAM and why? I think something I love about DREAM is that it’s a very close community. We get to have very open conversations with each other because we all know each other and can empathize with what the other person is going through.

What’s a hobby or interest that many people don’t know about? I love photography and art in general. I probably have 50 tubes of paint under my bed in my “art container”, and I have seven cameras that all have different filters.

What advice would you give to your freshman self?… break out of your shell more. Don’t be afraid to look stupid or look weird. Have more fun, and enjoy the moments when you aren’t worried about homework or school.

How do you think you’ve made an impact here at North? I’m a Point Tutor, and I also try my best to be an optimistic and kind person because you never know what someone is going through.

How do you manage your extracurricular activities and work with school? Well, I work 5-6 hours a week, and I have a rigorous course load. I make sure to set aside some time for myself, but after I have that time, I make sure to finish what needs to be done.
