Lil Yachty marks a new change in his career: Let’s Start Here.

The up-and-coming artist Lil Yachty recently released his new album, Let’s Start Here. featuring 14 songs, totaling almost an hour of listening time. Fans quickly flocked to the latest release, taking to social media and other social centers to express their excitement. So, let’s see what all the enthusiasm is about, and why this is truly a good album.

Let’s Start Here starts off with the lengthy the BLACK seminole. boasting nearly seven minutes of music. The track is a very good opener, introducing the style of the album – R&B, with very indie-esque features throughout. The mood doesn’t change much throughout it, although certain songs definitely stick out.

Tracks such as running out of time or drive ME crazy! are perfect examples of this – they are very much similar to the rest of the songs, but through their astutely crafted combinations of spot-on lyrics and good melodies really do stand out in the album. They create the typical R&B mood of calmness and serenity, while including indie and pop elements throughout. Such tunes are very reminiscent of Tyler, the Creator’s IGOR or perhaps Steve Lacy’s Apollo XXI albums.

What stands out perhaps the most in the whole album is its uniqueness as compared to other albums. In its essence, the album is unlike any other; as mentioned previously, it is a perfect example of R&B music, but works to consistently maintain a distinct indie tone. Every song is different from the rest, but together, they all blend into a beautiful collection of relaxed tunes.

The best song of the playlist, in my opinion, is :(failure:(. It is probably the only song that is completely dissimilar from the rest of the album. :(failure:( is almost a monologue, featuring a seemingly astrological background track and a deeply philosophical look on the outside world. The artist talks about his relationship with life and his views on human reactions in the face of tragedy. Such tracks are rarely included in albums and despite it being overlooked, :failure:( is certainly one of Lil Yachty’s best.

Freshman music enthusiast Leo Malatesta shared similar thoughts: “It’s very good. [It’s the] best album of all time,” Malatesta said. “The way that he transformed his career from a soundcloud rapper to a well-respected artist is magnificent.”

As mentioned by Malatesta, Lil Yachty started out as an artist in 2016, and throughout his professional career, was always viewed as ‘just another SoundCloud rapper,’ and not anything serious. Let’s Start Here. marks his first big album, and has unquestionably altered previously held beliefs about his talent and merit.

Overall, the album was definitely one for the ages, and will be remembered as such. If Lil Yachty continues in this fashion, he is likely to follow in the footsteps of music legends such as Tyler, the Creator or Kanye West, and perhaps even become one of the great artists of our time.
