The thing about the website that revolutionized the way people watch videos, is that it was created solely from user content. For almost seven years the web based empire has attracted a wide variety of people. Inspired by the original spelunkers of the internet who chose to venture past the chat rooms and text based games that were the excitement of computers and the internet before we came to know the modern day social networking such as Facebook. While everyone has tried to make it big and become popular on Youtube, not all have been successful. But a few have stuck out to me such as channels like Epic Meal Time, Smosh and Jenna Marbles.
Epic Meal Time uses the ingredients that no one would have ever dared to combine to create works of art. Their concoctions may look delicious, but I don’t know how quickly I would dive into one of their creations. Their highest calorie meal (hundreds of times more then the recommended daily caloric expenditure, I might add) is 802, 420 calories. The video is entitled “Turbaconepicentipede”. It is referring to the movie that may be new, or just repressed from your memories. The Human Centipede. The only difference is that the boys from Epic Meal Time are connecting eight turkeys, filled with other birds and different kinds of meats as well. Who would think of that? No one other then EMT. Epic Meal Time has surpassed my expectations for any comedy/culinary channel on Youtube.
Smosh has been around a lot longer then some channels on Youtube. They have been committed to the site in since 2006. They have 4,181,890 subscribers, and 1,154,879,212 total site views. They entertain their viewers with a myriad of comedic skits. I have seen videos on their channel spanning anywhere from the categories of educational songs, to food battles. I have stayed loyal to Smosh over the years, and can say that they are worth checking out.
Jenna Marbles (Jenna Mourey) is a new star on Youtube who was discovered after making the video “How to trick people into thinking you’re good looking.” Through creativity, and courage she has strewn comedy, and advice together. Some may say the advice isn’t there, but I believe it is subliminal. In pounding on ridiculous amounts of makeup she is subliminally aiming to show people that they don’t need all that stuff for others to think you’re attractive. I find her channel to be educational, and comedic in this way. For that, I recommend her channel to anyone who wants a good laugh, or to try and learn something that they can find useful in their everyday lives.
