Why you should get a summer job
The weather is heating up and summer is fast approaching, so naturally, teens and high schoolers are looking to have the most fun. There are a lot more things to do this summer than last year due to the lifting of vaccine and mask mandates. Teens are probably thinking about going to the pool with their friends, or playing sports at the park, but what about summer jobs?
Work is probably the last thing on most teens’ minds during summer but it is something that teens should consider doing as well. There are many reasons why teens should work in the summer. For most of us, money would probably be the first reason. It could be for saving for college early or just having extra money to use whenever you need it.
The second reason would be to have something to do over the summer. Summer break is pretty long, and it’s hard finding ways to spend all that time. Jobs can be a good way to spend that time, and you get paid for it too.
If you’ve been checking your school email, you’ll probably see a lot of emails from our Education to Careers Coordinator Lisa Edelson. She’s always posting about new job offers around the area for teens. About teens getting summer jobs, she said, “Yes, I absolutely recommend securing a summer job while in high school.” Experience is also pretty important. “I always believe that for a high school student experience is the most valuable takeaway from any job,” she said.
In conclusion, consider getting a job this summer. Whether it be for the experience or the money, it won’t be something you will regret.
