Senior Russell Rosa bowls at State
On January 22, Niles North Senior Russell Rosa qualified for State Bowling. Russell turned in a 1340 six-game series, with a game-high of 258. The State Bowling Tournament was held on January 28, in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
While Russell qualified for State in tennis last year, this is his first time bowling at State.
North Star News interviewed Russell about his experience at the tournament.
“State for bowling was very different from any other bowling tournament because everyone there was really good. Usually, at bowling tournaments, there’s a large portion of people who are new to bowling, so the scores are pretty low. At state, everyone there had to average around 220 in order to qualify so the feel was a lot different. It felt [like it] was more intense and everyone there was passionate about bowling,” Russell said when asked about the tournament.
When asked about his future of bowling Russell said, “I have to start preparing for tennis season, so I won’t be able to bowl as much for the next few months. I don’t think I’ll bowl in college, but I’ll most likely join a few leagues and try to compete in adult tournaments for money. There isn’t much college scholarship for boys bowling and most of the schools are small, so I don’t really see a point in it.”
Look forward to what Russell has to offer in the upcoming Tennis season!

You really captured the excitement of the event. It’s too bad there aren’t more collegiate options for students competing in bowling…it takes a lot of skill to master!
