The Niles North Math Team ended this season by placing second overall in the Cook Division of the North Suburban Math League (NSML) and by winnng the coveted Candy Bar Contest at the conference meet this year.
The senior team placed first overall, while the juniors placed second overall. The freshmen team earned third-place overall. Josh Lipschultz, senior Viking oralist, placed second overall. “Senior Ben Marks had a perfect paper at the conference meet and received an Honorable Mention for the John Benson Outstanding Math Student award,” Ankur Joshi, junior team coach, said.
The Cook Division Conference included teams from the following high schools:Elk Grove, Ida Crown, Larkin, Leyden, Proviso Math Science Academy, Romeoville, South Elgin, St. Charles East, UIC College Prep, and Warren.
The teams this year worked well together, including the freshmen team. Their plans for next year are to continue improving and increase the level of student participation even more. They are going to continue building their sophomore and freshmen teams, have more paperless notifications, and have more fun and snacks.
Each grade is coached by a different teacher: the senior team is coached by Conrad Musleh, Joshi coaches the junior team, Sean Delahanty coaches sophomores, and Katherine France coaches the freshmen. Bonnie Weiberg administers certain tasks and events.
“Math team is open to all but you must be passionate about math,” Joshi said.
