Varsity boys gymnastics won 129 to 125 against Glenbrook South after having a Senior Night ceremony to honor this year’s graduating Seniors.
While Varsity won, Junior Varsity unfortunatley lost 63 to 91. This season, Freshmen won 3 and lost 4 meets. JV won 4 and lost 4 meets. Varsity won 6 and lost 4 meets (breakdown of past meets are listed below).
According to Senior Tino Luna, although the team has had an issue with poor grades preventing some gymnasts from participating in meets, they excelled in adapting to this year’s “new code of points” for gymnastics. Coaches and many team members studied the new guidelines. “Everyone was extremely flexible with routines because most have changed drastically in order to score higher.”
It appears that this season has been filled with new challenges from the challenge of a new point system to individual challenges. For Luna, an individual challenge also proved to be a moment of pride “when I was asked to compete on floor the day before a meet. […] I did extremely well and I continued to compete on floor throughout the season.” Although the season is not over yet and there are still opportunities for future rewarding moments, it is beginning to wrap up.
The season will be wrapping up for some in a couple of weeks and extending for others who will move on to compete at state against the best in Illinois. Before state, however, there is conference. Varsity’s recent win at Senior Night could mean that Niles North has a chance at getting tied for first in conference, which will be held Thursday May 1, 2014 and Saturday May 3, 2014. These meets are the next and the last meets of the season, so be sure to come out and show your support!
