Two nights ago, a live studio audience and millions of Americans tuned in to watch as Juan Pablo Galavis, former pro-soccer player, gave out his final rose on The Bachelor.
Although this whole season has been as dramatic as past seasons, I was very disappointed, to say the least. Last night’s finale, filled with tension and controversy, revealed Juan Pablo for the truly impudent, indecisive, selfish and, if I do say so myself, disgusting man that he is.
As a quick recap, Juan chose to send Clare home, and continue to date Nikki, but did not propose, nor proclaim his love for her. Before I continue bashing Juan Pablo, I would like to make it clear that I do respect his decision to hold off on the engagement. In such a short period of time, he at least had some common sense to wait. Nevertheless, I do not respect him as a person.
Throughout the season, Juan Pablo seemed rather uninvolved. He was barely capable of carrying out an intelligent conversation, yet he successfully made out with almost every girl in the house. Juan continuously led some of the women on, especially Clare during their rendezvous in the ocean. This particularity frustrated me. After the night he spent with Clare, Juan confronted her and claimed he regretted what they had done and he felt he needed to be a respectable role model for his daughter. Whoa. Stop right there. Am I the only one who thinks his daughter seemed a bit too young to watch the show? I sure hope not.
Besides his incapacity to carry out a conversation of interest, I was also irritated by Juan’s inability to reflect on his dates. It seemed that most of the time he commented on the women’s bodies, or his sexual attraction to them, rather than their commonalities. He seemed to always want a kiss. I realize this show was edited, but I believe that Juan must, at some level, be the man he is portrayed to be.
Monday’s finale was the pivotal moment for me. I saw how truly disrespectful and hurtful Juan was. His offensive comment directed at Clare and his response after Clare had left — “I’m glad I didn’t pick her,” revealed his true nature.
The After The Final Rose show with Chris Harrison was also rather entertaining. Harrison, the reality host of this show, seemed rather aggravated with Juan, and so was I. Juan Pablo never answered the direct question and got very defensive about questions pertaining to his feeling and behavior towards the women. Many times, Nikki had to rescue Juan and defend their relationship. As Harrison stressed throughout the interview, being on a reality show makes Juan’s journey a public manner. Juan owes it to the viewers to be honest, not secretive, yet he wouldn’t talk about his relationship and feelings for Nikki.
Juan’s lack of compassion and disrespect for the women on the show was a warning bell to women who are easily deceived by men like him. I love a good drama, but this show was unsettling. Juan Pablo was the wrong choice for The Bachelor and I am so glad this season has ended. As Andi said before she left Juan, it was not the “language barrier” which made it hard to communicate with him – it was his lack of personality and empathy towards others, which made him so unsympathetic and incompatible.
If I’ve learned anything from this season, it would be this one thing — “Eeeesssssss okay.”

Loved your article! Juan Pablo made me so angry. I can’t wait for Andi’s season though!
