This Valentine’s day give your friends and loved ones an inexpensive and crafty gift: a tissue paper flower. You can make a bouquet or construct a single flower corsage. In this tutorial, I will show you how to make a tissue paper flower corsage.
Supplies:
Tissue paper sheets (Red, White, and Pink)
Scissors
Ribbon
Ruler or Tape Measure
3 Sheets needed for one batch of flowers. A batch of flowers is 4.
Start out by taking a full sheet of tissue paper and laying it out on a table. Layer two more sheets on top of the first in the order in which you would like them to appear in the flower. Be sure to line the sheets up as closely as possible.
Next, fold all three pieces up from the bottom about an inch up. Continue by turning the sheets over and folding repeatedly, like an accordian. (See photos below for guidance)
After you are done folding the tissue paper, it should look like this.
Cut this piece into 4 separate pieces. In order to do this, you will start by folding it in half once and cutting it. Then fold the two smaller pieces and cut them in half. Each will create 1 flower.
With each piece, you will need to tie a ribbon halfway in the middle. The ribbon will need to be 25 inches, which you may measure out with a ruler, tape measure, or if you don’t have a proper measuring tool, a full size adult cat will work just fine if you can get it to stand still. Don’t include the tail, this is not to say that you should cut your, or your neighbor’s, cat’s tail off. Just don’t include it in the measuring of your ribbon. Keep in mind that this craft is completely pet-friendly. But I digress, back to the activity.
Tie this ribbon in the middle of the folded tissue and then make a knot. Expand each side of the “accordian” and make it look like a bow tie.
Now for the tricky part. Very gently tug or pull the top layer inwards towards the middle of the flower, creating the center of the flower.
Repeat for the next two layers of the flower, all the time keeping the knot of the ribbon at the bottom of the flower.
Don’t worry if the tissue paper rips or tears a bit, you can move it around and push into place.
This is the finished product!
Have fun spreading the love with these adorable and easy-made tissue paper flowers!
