Niles North’s Varsity Wrestling team hosted the CSL and dominated the wrestling floor by placing third out of 12 teams, a significant achievement when considering that the team placed 8th last year.
As varsity coach Chris Albandia said, “I feel the outcome of today’s tournament shows us that we aren’t just hoping we can do well but that we believe.”
Individually, senior James Edmond (at a weight of 285) placed in 1st, junior Hermez Abraham (106) placed in 2nd, junior Jonathan Pazmino (145) placed in third, and senior Daniel Litvochenko (120) placed in third as well. Sophomore Cameron Chichowitz (220) and junior Calvin Rosenberg (170) placed in 4th, junior Maykel Potros (126) and junior Andrew Hoegen (152) placed in 5th place, and senior Shawn Lavi (113) placed in sixth.
Outside of this tournament, this season has been going fairly well for the varsity wrestlers. Not only have they shown their improvement compared to last year in this CSL invite, they also won the team championship at the Kaneland invite. With these two victories under their belt, varsity has a strong presence as regionals approaches.
However, although confident, the team seems to be keeping a level-headed attitude. After all, “there’s still a lot of work to be done” as junior Hermez Abraham says. This coming weekend the CSL crossover dual meet against Glenbrook South and Evanston Township will take place at Maine East, and regionals will be beginning on February 8th and will be hosted at Notre Dame.
With the varsity wrestling team standing stronger than ever, your support is needed more than ever at these approaching events.
