Will Ferrell and Adam Mckay’s Ron Burgundy is back, but this time is taking the west coast in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues”.
Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) and Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), now married in this sequel to the 2004 hit Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, have been relocated to Manhattan and are co-anchors at WBC News. But their new boss isn’t pleased with Burgundy’s performance and fires him, giving Corningstone the prime time anchor spot. In distress, Burgundy leaves his wife and son, returns to San Diego and is offered an anchor job with a new 24-hour news reporting station in Manhattan, GNN.
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, is a non-stop riot from beginning to end, if of course, you are a loyal Ron Burgundy fan. Mckay brings all the old characters back (even one from the dead), and creates a new story with them, even if it doesn’t contain the same plot-substance that Oscar winning films have.
I would give this film 3 out of 5 North Stars. The humor of this movie caters to a certain group of people- the cult followers of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. That being said, some of the racial slurs and random obscenities may not be fancied by more conservative viewers. The lack of a thoughtful plot also may be a turn off to some viewers if they are not entertained by the 2 hours of random laughs.
Many viewers and critics alike were unsure whether or not the legend would really continue with this sequel to the now cult-classic, but in my opinion, I feel that Mckay and Ferrell were able to keep up the style of humor no one else can recreate.
