On Feb. 12, the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs faced off in Super Bowl 57, in what was a great game all the way through the final whistle.

During the first half, both quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes would go back and forth, scoring like madmen to try and keep the game close. In the first half, Mahomes went 8 for 13 in passing attempts, with 89 yards and 1 touchdown. Later on in the half, Mahomes, along with the help of running back Isiah Pacheco, would help the Chiefs score twice more. However, the difference maker would come from the defense, as a forced fumble would result in a scoop and score that would only leave them down by a field goal.

The Eagles, on the other hand, had a different story in the first half and would also end up scoring three touchdowns along with a field goal to go into halftime up by 3 points. During this scoring flurry, the Eagles looked like a well-oiled machine, as everything seemed to go their way. The offense was moving up and down the field. However, the highlight in the first half was their aggressive nature and how they went for every fourth down and would get it. The defense also played with the same aggression, flying all over the field going after the ball, and would end up with a couple of stops.

Another big event during the Super Bowl was the halftime performance, as Rihanna would make her return to music.

“I mean, obviously, it’s Rihanna and everyone missed her. She sounded good, although I think her lip-syncing could use some work. I don’t know, I feel like a lot of the halftime shows are way more flashy and bigger on the stage, but the platforms were cool,” Niles North sophomore Penelope Roewe said.

The performance would also be the moment that the world saw that Rihanna was pregnant. No doubt fans were impressed with Rihanna’s performance given the circumstances, but some felt that the performance was lacking.

“I thought it was a very bad halftime show, it was terrible. Out of all the artists, I don’t know why they picked her. It was really bad and her stage looked like a Super Smash Bros. map,” freshman Yoni Soloveychik said.

“I think it was a good way to bring her back to music because, of course, everyone’s going to want to see Rihanna make her comeback at the Super Bowl,” freshman Lily Howard said.

Overall a lot of mixed feelings were in the air over Rihanna’s performance, and only time will tell if it was really all it was meant to be or not.

Once the second half began, the game really started to heat up. Both teams kept up their scoring trends, and the game remained close until the Chiefs ended up tying the game up at 35 points a piece. The Chiefs would then end up winding the clock down after converting on a third down on a controversial holding call, to kick what would end up being the game-winning field goal.

At the end of the day, fans were left satisfied with the quality of the game, and many can’t wait to see the state of these two teams and the rest of the league next season.
