With innumerous blazing flames through the continent, these Australian wildfires have been one of the most devastating events in the world so far.

Summers in Australia were always known to be torrid and susceptible to fires, but this season, the yearly fires grew rapidly both in size and in number. Currently, there are about 100 bushfires in New South Wales area alone, and many more flaming infernos throughout the rest of Australia.

According to the New York Times, these devastating fires have covered an area of about 25.5 million acres, which is roughly the size of South Korea.

While the fires aren’t burning in all areas of Australia everyone is still suffering from its side effects. For example, the nearby fires have led to clouds of ash and haze hanging over the two major cities of Melbourne and Sydney.

The latest update shows that there were constant thunderous rainstorms, along with “hail as big as golf balls” last Thursday, yet not many fires have been quelled by this downpour.

In fact, most of the larger bushfires continue to burn and grow with more intensity each and every day. As for the cities that have received plentiful rain, they have been warned of severe flooding, although the rain is working to clear up the ashy remains of the earlier flames.
