Calliope, the Niles North student-designed arts and literary magazine, makes its debut as a full-color digital publication today (June 6, 2012). Titled Speculations, the 72-page journal contains poetry, prose, photos and art from more than 60 North students of all grade levels.

A print version of the magazine (sadly, not in color) will be released early in the 2012-2013 school year. The event will include poetry readings, dramatic monologues and an art gallery.

Named after the Greek muse of epic poetry, the magazine is created, designed and published by Niles North students. Incoming senior Rupal Desai is the editor-in chief. Incoming senior Michelle Jacob is Associate editor. Incoming seniors Basil Alias and Michelle Lin serve as assistant editors. General staff includes incoming juniors Sara Morrison, Jonathan Marks and Caleb Martinez. Incoming juniors Maggi Kreisheh and Jake Kaufman of northstarnews.org converted the edited pages into digital format.

Incoming senior Serena Hocharoen designed the 2012 issue’s striking cover.

English teacher Charles Pratt is faculty adviser and English teacher Ivan Silverberg serves as technical adviser.

Students who wish to contribute to Calliope 2013 may submit their work electronically to [email protected] or place it in the submission boxes located in the Point and the IRC.
