No Man’s Sky takes flight

Many video games have tried to create the feeling of being in space, from the early Atari Star Wars games to more recent experiences like Dead Space. No Man’s Sky by Hello Games is the newest game to try its hand at the sci-fi space genre.

No Mans Sky’s most impressive feature is the sheer scale of its universe. Hello Games has calculated it would take you more than 5 billion years to explore every planet. These planets are highly varied thanks to an algorithm that Hello Games created. Planets can be earth-like with trees and animals, or cold with no oxygen. The variations are endless. “You can trade, you can fight, you can explore, you can survive. It’s a giant sandbox – a universe-sized sandbox,” Managing Director, Sean Murray said.

Once you arrive on a planet, what to do is up to you. You can look for treasure in caves, categorize or hunt animals, or even mine for materials inside the planet itself. By exploring planets and gaining supplies you can upgrade your ship or character to help you on your adventures. Another great feature is the ability to name planets and animals through disovering them. Afterwards, anyone else who finds your planet or animal will see your name and profile picture.”I love the fact that it has free roam and all the planets and animals you get to discover,” senior Niv Hershkovich said. Just like in real life, disrupting a planet’s ecosystem has consequences. If you kill too many animals or devastate its mineral supply, the planet’s police force may come to attack you. Once your wanted, a star rating will appear to tell you how many police robots are after you.

No Man’s Sky releases on June 21, 2016 and I can’t wait.
