Franks ‘n Dawgs

Franks+n+Dawgs

Forget everything you know about hot dogs, Franks ‘n Dawgs is far from ordinary. Located in Lincoln Park, this hot dog joint goes above and beyond the traditional hot dog. These hot dogs are gourmet meals on a brioche bun toasted to perfection.

The venue looks like an ordinary diner when you walk in, but the staff creates a fun, vibrant atmosphere that elevates the whole experience. Instead of giving you a number for your order, you’re given a picture of a celebrity, which adds to the fun atmosphere. Looking to the menu, you see exotic combinations such as the Krazy Kimchi Dog, Bayou Dog, and Banh Mi to name a few.

Prices range from about 6-9 dollars. While some may think this is a bit pricey for a hot dog, they were definitely worth it.  I ordered the Bacon Mac ‘n Cheese Dog, which is just what it sounds like. The toasty bun, savory sausage, and the mac and cheese with brioche bread crumbs & thyme on top created a top notch dog. Fellow Niles North students, Alethea Busch and Nick Bohm, tagged along and ordered the Brunch Dog, a “Slagel farms pork loin breakfast sausage with Cobb smoked bacon, fried egg & drizzled with maple mayo” and Quiche Dog, a “Bacon sausage, seasonal quiche, arugula, pickled red onions & champagne vinaigrette.” Both had nothing but great things to say about their dogs.

As an appetizer, we ordered cheese fries and the Triple Truffle Fries: “Yukon Gold waffle cut fries, truffle oil, truffle butter, truffle salt & freshly chopped herbs.” While the cheese fries were decent, the savory flavor and the crisp texture of the Triple Truffle tasted excellent, although it was quite pricey (about $6) considering the somewhat small portion given. Overall, Franks ‘n Dawgs is a great hot dog joint and restaurant in general if you’re looking to try something exciting. Franks ‘n Dawgs puts a fun twist on your boring old hot dog.
