Niles North realizes dreams this Thursday

Niles North is partnering with the Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools to honor Martin Luther King Jr. This event will be in the commons on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 3:30 p.m.

The event will display a diverse array of Niles North students giving their input on race, the problems of our nation, and activism. Dr. Robinson, the keynote speaker, will describe her experiences growing up as an African-American woman. The event will celebrate the high-quality public education one can get at Niles North, and will connect it to MLK’s legacy.

Immigrant Rights Club organized this event and Ahmad Zaidi, a vocal member of the club, thinks this will get people to discuss the importance of Dr.King’s influence. “The goal of the Martin Luther King Jr. panel is to reflect on the history of social activism that Martin Luther King embodies and to start a discussion about how we can build upon the social progress that we have already made, especially in the last 60 years. This might mean tackling new frontiers of social progress or pushing for reforms that haven’t been carried out yet,” Zaidi said. Hopefully, this panel will open discussions about what our community can do to ensure the future will progress toward a more equitable state.

This very important Niles North event is expected to have a large turnout. Make sure to stop by the commons on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 3:30 after school!
