The Girls Basketball team has had a very good season. They went 9-1 in Conference, losing only their first game to Maine West. After starting their season 1-5 they went on a 6 game win streak. During winter break they participated in a tournament at Brookfield High School. That was a turning point in the season where they went 4-1 with only a loss to Reavis High School. After that tournament they went to in another six games in a row.  St. Francis snapped their win streak with a  59-58 win.

The Vikings played the Highland Park Giants for Senior Night and for the sole ownership of the CSL North Conference Title. They won 48-30. It was, Kienya Jones’ and Alyssa Brand’s last Conference game at home. Next year Brand will be going to Drake to play soccer, while Jones is still deciding what school in the midwest she wants to play at. Being the Conference Champions and getting their number on the banner is a great way to leave the North.

After the win at home on senior night, the team geared up to play Leyden for the Regional Semi-finals.

The Vikings jumped to a lead early in the game and never let up. They ended up winning 52-38. Then they were headed into the Regional Championship game.

Before the Championship game Carolyn Dwyer (jr.) talked about her expectations for the game saying, “We worked really hard at practice to make sure we run the plays right. I was really excited to play.”

Niles North and GBS had never played each other before Friday night. Both teams prepared for the game in their own way. The Titans had height on their side and used it well. They won the jump ball at the beginning of the game, but the Vikings kept them from scoring. Niles North scored on the other end making it 2-0. Unfortunately, they didn’t keep the lead very long. The Titans stepped up their game and used their height to their advantage, feeding the ball to their tall forwards and having her put up easy shots. In the end, the Vikings fell to the Titans 36-61, it was a tough way to end their season.

It was a disappointing way to end our season, but they outplayed us and I’m proud of the things my team has accomplished this year,” said Alyssa Aragon.

After the game, Athletic Director Karl Costello brought out a ladder and put it under one of the nets for the Titans to cut, as a tradition for winning the Championship.

Monday night GBS played Evanston in the Sectional semi-finals. They went into quadruple overtime, but Evanston got the win in the end.
