Friday, February 6 was the senior night basketball game for the Varsity boys. After dropping two straight games to Maine East and Deerfield, the Vikings (15-8) fell to third place in the conference. The senior night game was played against the Glenbrook North Spartans who were 10-10 coming into the game. Niles North needed a spark to end the losing streak and give them momentum going forward.

GBN started the game off strong taking a quick 4-1 lead, but that didn’t last long thanks to a corner three by Diondre Williams. After that, the Vikings took the lead in forceful manner and never looked back. They finished the first quarter with a 13-2 run to take a 17-6 lead.

The three ball was falling for everyone on Niles North, and the defense was some of the best they’ve played in a while. Danilo Ranger, the center, hit a pair of threes. After a five second call thanks to great defense by Ranger, a timeout was taken as the Vikings led 28-9. With four minutes remaining in the first half, the Vikings seemed unstoppable. To end the first half, Niles North went up 33-14.

Diondre Williams opened up the second half with another three point shot, and Niles North showed no signs of stopping. The held the lead the whole game after taking the lead early in the first quarter. Overall it was one of the most balanced games Niles North has played recently, and everyone was involved. The final score was 57-31, putting the Vikings at a 16-8 overall record (5-3 conference). Coming up next for them is arguable one of the most important games of the season for them, Friday, February 13 against the second seeded Highland Park Giants.
